(TLNA) — Beginning this August, drivers utilizing the University of Arizona’s parking garages will face fees for parking on Saturdays and Sundays, marking a significant departure from the current practice of offering free weekend parking. To minimize theft and vandalism and people would speed through the garages during the weekends, Zak explained. Folks would come in on a weekend and leave car and if they left the following weekend. There was no way to monitor or track.

While the implementation of weekend fees applies exclusively to the parking garages, the university has confirmed that surface lots will remain free for weekend parking.
