The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) is urgently seeking animal lovers in Southern Colorado to open their homes and hearts to foster pets with special needs.
Overwhelming Need for Foster Homes
The HSPPR recently posted on their Facebook page about the critical situation they are facing. They are receiving approximately two litters of neonatal kittens each day, placing a significant strain on their resources. These bottle baby kittens and puppies require intensive care, prompting the shelter to prioritize their placement over other animals awaiting adoption.
Variety of Animals Needing Foster Care
The call for foster homes extends to pets with various needs, including those who are sick, injured, or shy. Additionally, individuals who can provide the extra attention and care required for emergency bottle babies are desperately needed.
Requirements for Foster Homes
Individuals interested in fostering must meet specific requirements set by the HSPPR:
- Age and Transportation: Foster caregivers must be at least 18 years old or have adult supervision and reliable transportation.
- Pet Requirements: Existing pets in the household must be up-to-date on vaccinations and spayed or neutered.
- Zoning Regulations: Foster homes must adhere to zoning regulations regarding the maximum number of pets allowed.
- Home Visit: A home visit will be conducted prior to fostering, as mandated by state law.
- Landlord Approval: If renting, individuals must obtain consent from their landlord.
- Commitment: Foster caregivers must commit to a minimum of two weeks of care.
Making a Difference Through Fostering
Fostering provides a lifeline for vulnerable pets who may not otherwise have a chance at a happy and healthy life. By opening their homes, individuals can make a significant impact on the lives of these animals.
