LOS ANGELES – Following the cancellation of its main stage commencement ceremony due to pro-Palestinian protests, USC has unveiled plans to host a celebratory event dubbed the Trojan Family Graduate Celebration at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

The university’s decision to forego its traditional commencement ceremony came amid controversy surrounding the speaking engagement of pro-Palestinian valedictorian Asna Tabassum, whose remarks were deemed contentious by some members of the community.

Turmoil in Commencement Plans

USC’s commencement season faced significant upheaval starting in mid-April when the university announced it would not permit Tabassum to address attendees at the main stage ceremony, citing security concerns over her online remarks that were criticized as antisemitic. Tabassum has refuted these allegations.
