Virginia Beach, Va. – The Virginia Beach Police Department is actively investigating a perplexing shooting incident that occurred early Monday morning.
Burglary Attempt Leads to Shots Fired
Around 8:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 2600 block of Mulberry Loop in response to a reported burglary attempt, as stated by Ricky LaBlue from the Virginia Beach Police Department Public Affairs Office. Shortly thereafter, another call to emergency services reported shots fired in the vicinity.
Military Family’s Terrifying Ordeal
The targeted household, identified as a military family, expressed profound fear and confusion following the assault. According to a family member who wished to remain anonymous, surveillance footage captured two assailants firing multiple rounds at the residence, with one individual targeting the front entrance and another firing at the rear.
My family has no connection to this incident, the family member emphasized. We are entirely unaware of the perpetrators’ identities, and our recent relocation from Japan after two decades stationed there further complicates this situation.
Extent of Damage
The aftermath revealed at least 23 bullets dispersed throughout the dwelling, although the family suspects the actual count could be higher. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the psychological trauma lingers.
Community Support and Police Response
In response to the incident, the Virginia Beach Police Department underscored the importance of community engagement, particularly through the utilization of home security cameras. Ricky LaBlue stressed the significance of such technology in aiding law enforcement efforts, encouraging residents to participate in the camera registry program voluntarily.
Seeking Answers and Resolution
Amidst the turmoil, the affected family seeks clarity regarding the motive behind the attack. Merely apprehending the perpetrators, they assert, does not suffice without understanding the underlying reasons for the assault.
