Mesquite, Texas, faced a water supply challenge recently, prompting authorities to issue a boil water notice for customers of the Markout Water Supply system in Kaufman County.
Just before 2 p.m. on a Tuesday, a utility contractor struck a water line on FM 548 in Forney, causing the system’s pressure to drop below the critical threshold of 20psi, as disclosed by the city in a news release. Despite the disruption, the City’s Markout pump station continued to operate during the incident.
Markout Water Supply: Serving South Forney
Markout Water Supply, as per its website, covers an area of approximately 6,000 acres in south Forney and caters to the drinking water needs of nearly 1,100 residents.
Safety Measures During Boil Water Advisory
When under a boil water advisory, it’s crucial to adhere to safety guidelines. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advises using only bottled or boiled water for drinking, cooking, and oral hygiene, including brushing teeth. Moreover, refrain from using water from any household appliances connected to the affected water line, such as ice and water machines in refrigerators. However, washing laundry with tap water is deemed safe.
Restoration Efforts Underway
Efforts are underway to restore normal service and pressure to the Markout water system. However, the timeline for lifting the boil water notice remains uncertain. The City will need to conduct water testing and receive clearance before notifying customers of the all-clear.
