Habitat for Humanity’s efforts in Waukesha receive a significant boost from volunteers, with one standout individual being Warren Widicus.
A Decade of Dedication
After retiring from his corporate leadership position at Taco Bell, Widicus began dedicating his time to Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha and Jefferson Counties. He’s been a consistent presence, volunteering on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and most Wednesdays, and even some Saturdays. Over the years, he has contributed to the construction of more than 30 homes.
Mentoring Future Volunteers
Widicus not only lends his hands to building homes but also shares his expertise by training inexperienced volunteers. Despite starting with little knowledge of carpentry, he now plays a crucial role in guiding others through the construction process.
Recognizing Dedication
Habitat for Humanity acknowledges Widicus’s exceptional commitment by naming him Volunteer of the Year. Erin Balderas, the organization’s volunteer and marketing manager, highlights Widicus’s patience, energy, and heartfelt dedication to the cause.
Building Communities, One Home at a Time
The ongoing Domenica Park project in Waukesha symbolizes Habitat for Humanity’s mission. This initiative aims to create a neighborhood where 20 families, who may not have had the opportunity otherwise, can own homes. Each home is tailored to meet the specific needs of its occupants, such as accommodating wheelchairs.
Making Dreams a Reality
For Widicus, the true reward lies in helping families achieve their dreams of homeownership. He expresses gratitude for the chance to contribute positively to others’ lives and to be surrounded by like-minded individuals.
Honoring Widicus
The Volunteer of the Year award will be presented to Widicus during Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha and Jefferson Counties’ Dreambuilders Gala on June 14. This event provides an opportunity for attendees to witness the impact of Habitat’s work firsthand, as well as hear directly from families benefiting from the organization’s efforts.
