As residents of the Delaware Valley recuperate from a recent snowfall, the Weather Authority at TLNA is already tracking new winter systems on the horizon. With two systems emerging this week, the upcoming weather promises a mix of snow and blustery conditions. Here’s what you need to know:
Snowstorm Timeline
The first system is set to traverse the region on Thursday night, bringing the possibility of flurries north of Philadelphia. Friday will generally be dry and windy with ample sunshine. However, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory in anticipation of Friday night’s weather, encompassing the entire Delaware Valley. Additionally, Wind Advisories have been put into effect for the Poconos region.
Snowfall is expected to commence in the Philly suburbs around 11 p.m. Friday night, persisting until about 9 a.m. Saturday morning. Despite the snow tapering off, Saturday will remain cold yet sunny, with winds intensifying by late afternoon.
Projected Snowfall
While Saturday promises snow for all, the clipper system lacks substantial moisture. Projections indicate snowfall ranging from 1 to 3 inches across northern Pennsylvania through South Jersey and southern Delaware. However, the Poconos might only witness a light dusting to an inch, while areas like Wilmington, southern Delaware, Cape May, and Atlantic counties could experience accumulations of 2 to 3 inches, with isolated 4-inch pockets.
Comparatively, this system falls short of Tuesday’s snowstorm, which brought over a foot of snow to the Poconos but left South Jersey with just a dusting.
Snow Impacts
Despite the modest snowfall forecasted, even a small amount of snow can cause disruption. Residents should prepare for potentially slick roads early Saturday morning. However, the light and fluffy snow presents an opportunity for outdoor activities, such as sledding, especially in the morning hours.
Winter Weather Outlook
Following the departure of the system, winds will strengthen late Saturday morning, with temperatures hovering in the mid to upper 30s. Sunday will see abundant sunshine, albeit with lingering cold temperatures, reaching only the lower 40s.
Bracing for Winter’s Chill
As the Delaware Valley braces for another bout of winter weather, residents are advised to exercise caution on the roads and prepare for potential disruptions. While this system may not match the intensity of previous snowstorms, it serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of winter weather in the region. Stay informed with TLNA’s Weather Authority for the latest updates and stay safe during this wintry spell.
