A woman has been arrested in connection with a disturbing road rage incident that took place earlier this year in Austin, Texas, resulting in her young niece being shot in the face.

Incident Details

The incident occurred on West Ben White Boulevard around 5:42 p.m. on January 22nd. A 911 caller reported that shots were fired at a vehicle while driving on the highway. Upon arrival, officers found the vehicle parked on the side of the highway with bullet holes in the front and back passenger doors.

Arrest and Charges

The driver, identified as 25-year-old Yaquelyn Pedraza Castelan, was holding her injured niece. Another woman in the front passenger seat had also been shot. Both victims were transported to the hospital for treatment.

After receiving medical attention, the passenger provided her account of the events. She stated that they were traveling eastbound on Ben White Boulevard when another vehicle cut them off. Allegedly upset, Castelan accelerated to catch up with the other car. According to court documents, Castelan then asked her passenger to retrieve a gun from the glovebox. Subsequently, shots were fired from their vehicle towards the other car.

Castelan claimed that the occupants of the other vehicle had initiated the confrontation and that she had acted in self-defense. However, evidence at the scene contradicted her account.

As a result of the incident, the passenger in Castelan’s vehicle sustained multiple injuries, including rib fractures and a traumatic spinal cord injury. Castelan’s niece required plastic surgery to address the gunshot wound to her face.

Castelan has been charged with Endangering a Child in connection with the incident.
