LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Maci Joncich, a recent graduate of Coronado High School, has secured a coveted spot on the United States National Women’s Flag Football team. This summer, she will proudly represent her country at the Flag Football World Championships in Finland.

Early Beginnings and Dedication

Joncich’s journey into flag football began at the age of six when she joined a league in Henderson, playing alongside her older brothers. Over the years, her passion for the sport only grew stronger. Despite initially being the only girl among hundreds of boys in the league, Joncich persevered, honing her skills and dedication to the game.

From Local Leagues to National Recognition

Her talent didn’t go unnoticed. Playing for the APEX Predators on a national level, Joncich caught the attention of scouts for the national team. Now, as the youngest member of the squad, she sees her selection as the culmination of years of hard work and determination.

Reflecting on the evolution of flag football, Joncich is motivated to contribute to its continued growth. She acknowledges the significant strides the sport has made, particularly in embracing female participation. With the establishment of dedicated girls’ divisions in many leagues, Joncich sees immense potential for further expansion.

Looking ahead, Joncich has set her sights on a monumental goal – competing in the Olympics. With flag football set to debut as an Olympic sport in 2028 at the Los Angeles Games, she is determined to earn her place on the roster. Despite the annual challenge of securing a spot on the U.S. National Team, Joncich is committed to relentless effort in pursuit of her Olympic dreams.

A Bright Future Ahead

While her immediate focus is on the upcoming World Championships, Joncich is already planning for the future. This fall, she will embark on a new chapter at the University of Florida, where she intends to major in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology. With her unwavering dedication and drive, Joncich is poised to leave a lasting impact on the world of flag football.
