Concord, Calif. – A YouTuber from Concord, Scott Kitfield, found himself on the wrong side of the law after providing investigators with incriminating evidence through his own YouTube channel. The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office successfully prosecuted Kitfield for multiple incidents of extreme speeding and reckless driving on Contra Costa County freeways.
Identifying the Offender
The investigation began when the California Highway Patrol (CHP) received numerous public complaints about a gray BMW speeding and driving recklessly on Interstate 680 between Contra Costa and Solano counties in late spring 2022. Through diligent detective work, investigators identified the driver as Scott Kitfield by tracing his activities on his YouTube channel.
Reckless Behavior Documented
Kitfield’s YouTube channel contained numerous dashcam videos showcasing his dangerous driving habits. These videos depicted him speeding well over 100 mph on Bay Area freeways, engaging in races with other vehicles, and dangerously weaving through traffic, endangering the lives of fellow commuters.
Confirmation of Recklessness
Further confirming his disregard for safety, Kitfield’s comments on the channel boasted about his reckless actions, providing additional evidence against him. The videos also corroborated reports of Kitfield frequently exceeding speeds of 120 mph on I-680 and other Bay Area freeways.
Arrest and Conviction
On July 14, 2023, a CHP aircraft tracked Kitfield’s car as he drove home from Solano County to Concord. Investigators observed him speeding over 110 mph on I-680 and exceeding 120 mph while racing another vehicle through Martinez. Despite attempts to evade arrest, Kitfield was eventually apprehended after leading CHP officers on a chase and surrendering.
Legal Consequences
Following his arrest, CHP investigators recovered Kitfield’s computer and dash camera, which contained additional incriminating videos of his reckless driving. On April 3, Kitfield was convicted on multiple charges, including fleeing from law enforcement, reckless driving, and driving without a valid license.
The court sentenced Kitfield to 60 days in jail, probation, and imposed strict driving restrictions, including the installation of a tracking device on his vehicle. Additionally, Kitfield was warned by the judge about the potentially fatal consequences of his reckless behavior, emphasizing that further infractions could result in severe legal repercussions, including potential murder charges if someone were to be killed due to his actions.
Conclusion: Reckless Driving Comes with Serious Consequences
Scott Kitfield’s case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by reckless driving. While social media platforms offer individuals a platform to share content, they can also serve as a digital footprint for law enforcement agencies to pursue criminal charges. Kitfield’s conviction underscores the severity of reckless driving offenses and the legal ramifications that accompany such behavior.
